A Seberang Jaya man turned himself in to police yesterday after confessing to murdering his wife

The suspect, an unemployed 28-year-old, went to a nearby police station around 11.30am yesterday, 11 December, and informed authorities that he had killed his wife four days earlier at their apartment at Jalan Tuna, Seberang Jaya, reported the New Straits Times.

Upon further investigation, the body of his wife, a 44-year-old woman, was found in the second-floor bedroom.

She had sustained knife wounds to the back.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said a forensics sweep collected samples and uncovered the suspected murder weapon, a knife.

The victim's body has been sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital's Forensics Unit for a postmortem, while the suspect has been taken into custody.

The victim is believed to have been dead for several days

It is understood that the suspect has a criminal record for drug-related offences and criminal intimidation, while the victim, a mother of five before marrying the suspect two years ago, worked at a local supermarket.

Police are investigating a motive for the crime, with Helmi urging the public not to make speculations that could hinder the probe.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The suspect is expected to be brought to the Bukit Mertajam court today, 12 December, for a remand application.

Helmi urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the authorities in the investigation.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
