Ling's husband is among several individuals currently under investigation in connection with her alleged abduction, according to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
Speaking to reporters at Bukit Aman today, 6 May, Razarudin confirmed that police are looking into the possibility that businessman Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu may be a suspect in the case.
"The likelihood is leaning in that direction [the husband] and possibly a few other individuals. The investigation is not yet complete, and we believe there are others we will also identify as suspects," Razarudin was quoted as saying by Malay Mail.
The IGP said the police have recorded statements from 16 individuals so far, including Ling's husband
"His statement was taken earlier, and we will also be recording a statement from her child, who is currently in Singapore," he said, adding that checks have confirmed Ling's husband is still in the country.
Ling, who was last seen on 9 April, was allegedly abducted while en route to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya for a scheduled meeting.
Her e-hailing driver had claimed that the car they were travelling in was intercepted by three vehicles with men in "Polis" vests, who told her to exit and enter one of theirs.
"Following the victim's disappearance, I ordered the formation of a special task force involving elements from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and the Kuala Lumpur police," he said.
The case, he added, is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.
