A 20-year-old woman's afternoon turned into a terrifying ordeal when a naked man slipped into her Kuala Lumpur apartment, attacked her, and stole her phone after a violent struggle
The incident occurred around 3pm on Friday, 7 November.
The woman had stepped out to hang her laundry when she heard her unit's grille door open. Assuming it was her housemate, she paid it no mind until she turned and found a naked man standing inside her home, according to the New Straits Times.
The 27-year-old suspect had entered through the unlocked yard area.
When the woman tried to flee, he lunged, sparking a struggle inside the apartment.
Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said the victim suffered injuries to her left thigh, lips, and hand during the scuffle, reported FMT.
The suspect also threatened to kill her while demanding money, Hoo added.
"She attempted to call for help, but the suspect grabbed her phone," Hoo said.
The man fled after she refused to reveal her password.
A police report was lodged soon after
By 7.12pm the same evening, officers tracked down the suspect in the same neighbourhood.
The arrest led to the recovery of three mobile phones, including the victim's, as well as a backpack, laptop, shirt, trousers, and slippers.
Checks revealed the man is a repeat offender with an extensive criminal record.
A urine test also came back positive for cannabis.
"He admitted to being involved in several previous robberies and claimed he resorted to this to pay for his daily expenses," Hoo said.
The suspect has been remanded for five days until 13 November to assist investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.
