Police have opened a murder investigation into the fatal crash on the Maju Expressway (MEX) that left one tourist from Bangladesh dead earlier this week
The suspect, a 31-year-old military personnel, was brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters earlier today, 24 April, where a remand application was made.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The case was initially investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 2020) for driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in death.
Police had earlier confirmed that a breathalyser test showed the driver's alcohol level exceeded the permitted limit, while a urine drug screening test returned negative.

What happened in the crash
The incident occurred at about 5.38am on 23 April at KM1.9 of the MEX Highway, along the stretch from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak.
Investigations found that the suspect's car is believed to have veered into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with a Perodua Alza being used as an e-hailing vehicle.
The e-hailing vehicle was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers who had just arrived from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
A 22-year-old Bangladeshi national, Muzahid Millad, who was seated in the middle row, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife, Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 20, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
The 41-year-old e-hailing driver also suffered head injuries.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old female passenger in the suspect's car was injured, while the suspect himself sustained minor injuries.
