A man allegedly posed as a woman's boyfriend to peep on her while she changed in a Kuala Lumpur mall clothing store fitting room

Speaking to China Press, the woman said the incident occurred at around 1pm on 5 March, when she was shopping alone at the mall after running some errands.

"While I was trying on clothes in the store's fitting room, the curtain was almost pulled open from the outside three times.

"At the time, I thought it was a shop assistant who had accidentally walked in, so I quickly called out that someone was inside," she recounted.

However, when she exited the fitting room, she saw a man, believed to be in his 40s, loitering nearby.

When she came out, the man approached the shop assistants to ask a few questions before quickly leaving.

"I was very curious because the store only sells women's clothing, so I asked the assistants why they allowed a man to get so close to the fitting room.

"Unexpectedly, the assistants looked at each other in dismay and said the man claimed to be accompanying me, which is why they didn't stop him from getting close," she said.

Concerned that she had been peeped at while in the fitting room, the woman requested the store's CCTV footage and lodged a police report

The store's management confirmed the incident when contacted by China Press, adding that they have also lodged a report and provided CCTV footage to aid the investigation.

Cheras district police chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud said police are currently tracking down the suspect.

The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for words or gestures intended to insult a person's modesty.

If convicted, the suspect may face up to five years in jail or a fine, or both.
