A man who thought an approaching stranger was a friend watched in horror as his brother was stabbed to death

Speaking to Berita Harian, he recounted how his brother, Muhammad Amirul Rasyid, 28, was killed in front of their family home in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on Monday, 11 August.

Muhammad Amirul Hakim said he was chatting with his brother outside the house when the assailant arrived.

"I saw a Toyota Vios stop not far from the house, and a man got out with both hands behind his back.

"I thought he might be my brother's friend, but he suddenly he stabbed my brother in the chest. I immediately grabbed and restrained him (the attacker) and called my father," he told the Malay daily.

He said their father came out and restrained the suspect while he rushed to help his brother, who had collapsed and was covered in blood

"I laid him in my lap. The suspect managed to break free and run, but neighbours who heard the commotion caught him not far from the house," Muhammad Amirul Hakim said.

He added that his brother had just gotten engaged two weeks ago and was planning to marry later this year. Before the incident, the siblings had planned to go out and buy engagement gifts.

The deceased was the eldest of 12 siblings and a single father.

Seremban district police chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din said preliminary investigations indicated the incident stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and the victim, allegedly fuelled by jealousy.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
