Police have arrested a man seen performing silat at a cemetery in Kluang, Johor, in a viral video after he tested positive for methamphetamine

According to Bernama, Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 31-year-old suspect was arrested on Jalan Merdeka, Sri Lalang at 1pm on Monday, 24 November.

"The viral 27-second video was recorded by a member of the public on 21 November before being uploaded to the 'This Is Johor' Facebook page, raising various questions and public concern regarding etiquette and sensitivity at the cemetery.

"Initial urine screening results revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, and further checks found that the man has four prior records involving criminal and drug-related cases," he said in a statement yesterday, 25 November.

The suspect will be remanded until tomorrow, 27 November, to assist in the investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administration of drugs.

If convicted, he could face up to two years in jail or a fine up to RM5,000.

The video went viral last week, showing the man throwing various punches while wearing a helmet

The suspect's action caught the attention of Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, who urged members of the public not to speculate on the matter, reported FMT.

He said performing silat or engaging in any inappropriate behaviour within a cemetery compound is not acceptable in Islam.

However, Na'im added if the man is found to have mental health issues, he should be directed for treatment rather than public condemnation.

Meanwhile, Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairperson Fared Khalid has called for a thorough investigation to ascertain if any religious limits were violated.
