A man who witnessed a woman brandishing a knife at the Rain Rave Water Music Festival claimed that she had allegedly been a victim of theft

In a video on Xiaohongshu over the weekend, the witness, identified as Justin, said he was at arm's length from the incident in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, on Saturday, 2 May.

Due to the crowd and fences behind him, he had nowhere to run, prompting him to take out his phone and record the situation.

At first, Justin thought the woman was holding a fake knife, as its patterned design made it look like a toy.

"But I took another look, and based on the sheen and the way she was holding it, it was definitely a real knife. And the uncle's expression was very serious," he said.

He said the woman started having a heated confrontation with the uncle.

"It was clear she wanted to get physical. I wanted to run, but I couldn't. Where I was standing, there was a fence behind me. To my left, right, and back, there were fences. So I really couldn't escape; I could only record it," he recounted.

Overcome with fear, Justin said he prayed the woman would not charge towards him

"That kind of fear is honestly indescribable.

"Fortunately, the uncle reacted very quickly and immediately took control of the situation," he said.

After his video went viral on Instagram, he said an individual self-identified as the uncle's daughter claimed the suspect was believed to be a victim of theft.

"It turns out the woman's belongings had been stolen at the time, and she was on the verge of a breakdown.

"The uncle's family happened to be passing by her, and she suddenly exploded, thinking they were the thieves. She glared at them and started scolding them.

"Everyone initially thought the commotion was over because she told them to leave. However, she suddenly charged at the uncle with a knife," he said.

Justin added that if the man had been even half a second slower, someone could have died that day, describing him as "really kuat (strong)".

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed that the suspect, aged 28, was arrested after being subdued by members of the public.

Apart from the incident, Fadil said the three-day festival, which drew a total of 180,000 attendees, ran smoothly with no other major issues reported.
