A man who allegedly beheaded his brother in-law in Kubang Pasu, Kedah, suffers from a history of mental illness, according to police

Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the man, 38, had been receiving psychiatric treatment since 2021.

However, he stopped going to the hospital for about five months prior to allegedly beheading his brother in-law in a padi field in Kampung Pida 3 on 31 October.

"The suspect has a treatment card. He stopped receiving or refused treatment about four to five months ago. From our assessment, the case appears to involve hallucination," Adzli was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

The man allegedly killed his brother-in-law with a machete during a heated fight

Multiple slash wounds were found on the victim's body with his severed head discovered 1m away.

The man has been remanded for six days until 6 November.
