A Melaka man was beaten to death by an angry mob after allegedly exposing himself in a supermarket parking lot in Jasin Bestari
According to the New Straits Times, the victim, a 51-year-old married man, was found dead in front of a kindergarten at a nearby neighbourhood yesterday, 28 July.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident began at the supermarket car park, where the man — who had prior convictions for gross indecency in 2023 and 2024 — was committing sexual harassment by indecently exposing himself.
When members of the public noticed him, they gave chase, prompting the man to flee.
According to Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, the man was initially caught and assaulted by two men before managing to escape into a bushy area and crossing a river.
However, after crossing the river, he was caught and beaten by a crowd who responded to cries calling for his capture
The man was severely injured and later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Police were notified about the incident at around 9pm.

The individuals, aged between 15 and 50, also include a Pakistani national. All seven have been remanded for seven days, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
This isn't the first case in Malaysia involving vigilante justice. In 2021, an innocent man sustained severe injuries when he was assaulted by a mob who mistakenly believed he was responsible for a car accident, as reported by the Malay Mail.
In 2024, a driver who honked his horn following a suspected hit-and-run outside a mosque was attacked by a mob, according to the New Straits Times.
