Man Allegedly Beats Fellow Nursing Home Resident To Death In Perak

A 73-year-old man died yesterday, 17 September, after he was allegedly struck with a wooden stick during a dispute with a fellow resident at a nursing home in Perak

The incident happened around 1pm on Wednesday.

According to China Press, the victim was identified as Tan An Man.

According to the home's director, Tan had been living there for about seven years. He was alone with no family, suffered from depression, and often imagined that others intended to harm him.

He frequently clashed with the suspect, and their quarrels had at times turned physical, with both parties ending up at the police station on several occasions, reported the Chinese daily.

In response, the suspect grabbed a wooden stick and struck Tan, who collapsed in the corridor in a pool of blood, the home's director said.

Nursing staff did not dare move Tan and waited until police arrived to confirm his death. His body was later sent to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for a post-mortem.

The suspect has lived at the home for more than 10 years and was known for his volatile temper

According to the home's director, the two men had long shared a strained relationship.

Meanwhile, Manjung district police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman confirmed the case, reported China Press.

He said the suspect has been detained to assist investigations, and police will decide on the next course of action pending the post-mortem results.
