A Malaysian man arrested for robbing a jewellery shop in Hat Yai, Thailand, and stealing about 7 million baht (RM900,000) worth of gold, has been identified as a serial killer linked to at least 12 murders

According to Thai news outlet The Nation, police sources revealed that 61-year-old Yee Boon Long has an extensive criminal record, which includes the alleged murders of two Thai-national brothers.

Yee is suspected of killing Montree Saekung and Srirat Saekung at a rented house in Songkhla Mueang district on 22 May 2014.

China Press reported that Yee shot the individuals after becoming angered when they allegedly insulted his parents.

Earlier news reports revealed that Yee was also suspected of being linked to a gold heist in Penang 20 years ago.

He allegedly fled to Thailand after stealing gold worth around 50 million baht (equivalent to RM6.4 million today), reported the New Straits Times.

In January 2017, the man robbed another gold shop in Hat Yai, the Thai Yindee 2 gold shop, located across from the Thai Udom 2 shop, the site of his recent heist.

He carried out the robbery under the Thai alias Anucha Saeyeoh and was deported to Malaysia after his release from prison on 22 September 2023, reported Bangkok Post.
