A maid in Singapore has been jailed for assaulting a four-month-old baby using the child's own arm

The 29-year-old suspect, Indonesian national Indah Komala Sari, committed the crime on 2 June 2025, two weeks after starting work with the Singaporean family in May, reported CNA.

At around 3.30pm that day, Indah allegedly grew frustrated by the baby's crying and grabbed the child's arm, using it to strike the baby's face multiple times.

The victim's mother, who was outside, witnessed the assault live on her phone via the baby monitor. Indah, noticing she was being watched, then carried the child away.

The mother returned home immediately and alerted authorities, who arrested Indah the same day. Paramedics did not observe visible injuries on the victim.

Indah believed her actions would go unnoticed, as the baby monitor's camera was pointed at an empty cot

However, the victim's mother had angled the camera towards Indah just before the assault, the prosecutor said.

He sought a jail sentence of seven to ten months for the accused, arguing that the infant was completely defenceless.

Indah's defence lawyer, Anand Nalachandran, argued for a four-month sentence instead.

According to Nalachandran, the act stemmed from "exhaustion and desperation"

He said the accused had been unable to rest the night before the incident, as the baby could not sleep.

He said that the baby being unsettled the following day contributed to Indah lashing out.

He also said she took full responsibility and blamed no one for her actions.

On 10 February, Indah was sentenced to six months in prison. She had worked in Singapore for six years prior to the crime and will be repatriated after serving her sentence.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
