The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized a Mercedes-Benz E350 AMG for having expired road tax after the driver claimed he "rarely uses" the car
According to a Facebook post, Kedah JPJ said the luxury car was stopped during an operation in Sungai Lalang, Kuala Muda, last week.
Checks found that the vehicle lacked valid road tax or insurance despite being used on the road, prompting authorities to seize it under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
"The driver claimed the car was rarely used, which led to the road tax not being renewed," JPJ said.
Preliminary investigations also revealed that the driver was not the vehicle's registered owner
Summonses were also issued to the driver and registered owner under Section 23(1) and Section 90(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The vehicle has since been taken to the Kuala Ketil JPJ enforcement station for further action.
The department reminded road users that all vehicles must have valid road tax and insurance, regardless of how often they are used.
