The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former political secretary to a former Melaka chief minister

According to Harian Metro, the man, who holds the title 'Datuk Wira', was arrested alongside his wife at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya around 2pm yesterday, 11 February.

Sources said the couple is being investigated for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes totalling approximately RM3 million.

Investigators believe the pair used the illicit funds to purchase a luxury condominium in the Klang Valley

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests, stating the case is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009.

"Both suspects will be brought to the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court tomorrow (12 February) for a remand application," Azam said yesterday.

The identity of the former political secretary has not been officially released as he has yet to be charged in court

Every suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty, and these crimes remain "alleged" until a conviction is secured.

The MACC is expected to seek a multi-day remand to further trace the money trail linked to the reclamation deal.
