A former employee of a junket company is believed to have stolen RM3 million worth of gaming chips after allegedly sneaking into a casino's VIP hall and posing as a legitimate staff member

The incident reportedly took place around 3pm on 2 August, when the suspect — who had been dismissed nearly three weeks earlier — re-entered the premises by using someone else's membership card.

According to the junket company's representative, the man had around seven to eight years of experience in the industry before joining them. However, not long after being hired, he began skipping work frequently, which led to his termination and the freezing of his access.

"He was dismissed about 20 days prior. But on that day, he managed to enter the VIP hall unnoticed, as some of the staff still assumed he was part of the team," the representative told China Press.

At the time of the theft, staff were preparing a package for a high-value client and were in the process of arranging RM3 million worth of chips for delivery

The suspect allegedly insisted on handling the chip handover himself.

"Once he took possession of the chips, he went straight to the parking lot and drove off," said the representative, stressing that the chips belonged to the junket and not the casino itself.

The company has since lodged a police report and is cooperating with authorities to locate the suspect, who remains at large.

The spokesperson also did not rule out the possibility of internal assistance, but noted that there is currently no evidence of accomplices.
