A 19-year-old Form 6 student from Kedah was detained after she tested positive for drugs, following a trip to Thailand with her 25-year-old boyfriend
The STPM student, who will be sitting for her exams soon, told her family she was going to Thailand for the Hari Kebangsaan long weekend.
She crossed the border with her boyfriend on a motorcycle.
She told the officers from the Kedah branch of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) that she went on the trip because she was worried her boyfriend might be with other women.
"I went with him because I was concerned he might see someone else. I took ecstasy there just to have fun," she said, adding that her parents were aware of her trip.
She was stopped at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex (ICQS) at Bukit Kayu Hitam around 6am during a routine urine screening earlier this week, according to Harian Metro.
Separately, a 30-year-old single mother from Pokok Sena was also arrested after taking ecstasy in southern Thailand with a man
Kedah AADK director Khairul Anwar Ahmad said the arrests were part of 'Ops Merdeka 2025'.
Of the 31 individuals screened at the border, 21 men and two women aged 18 to 40 tested positive for drugs, with most being first-time users experimenting at entertainment venues.
"The operation aims to curb drug abuse at the country's border points, strengthen intelligence, and create profiling related to drug use, distribution, and smuggling," he added.
