A 63-year-old man was killed after a 100kg long-shaft connector dislodged from a tipper lorry and hit the vehicle he was travelling yesterday, 24 November

According to the New Straits Times, the incident occurred in Batu Pahat, Johor, along Jalan Sri Bengkal, Sri Gading at 8.30am.

The victim, Juhari Murid, was travelling from Senggarang to FELDA Pemanis in Segamat. Sinar Harian reported that he was on holiday with four other family members.

Juhari sustained serious injuries and died at the scene, while his wife, Zaina Khalid, 58, and three other relatives, including the driver, escaped unharmed.

It is understood that the iron shaft detached from the lorry while the family's vehicle was passing by

The 100kg piece of metal then bounced off the road before smashing into the vehicle's windscreen, hitting the victim in the face, reported Sinar Harian.

Juhari's daughter, Noor Shahin, 31, said she was shocked when a cousin called to inform her about the accident.

"I had a bad feeling about him going to Segamat. I didn't expect to lose someone I love," she told NST.

She immediately rushed from Muar to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail upon receiving the call.

She said she last spoke to her father via video call a day before, and he was excited to meet his 3-month-old grandson.

"Instead of bringing my son to see him, I'm returning to view his body," she lamented.

Juhari's other child, Mohd Danis Hakim, 22, urged authorities to take firm action against the lorry owner or company if negligence is found to have led to his father's death.

Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed that his department has received a report about the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving resulting in death.
