The family of a 85-year-old woman is demanding justice after she was killed in an alleged hit-and-run on Jalan Sentul, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 11 January

In a Facebook post yesterday, 14 January, the victim's grandson, Joe Ee, shared a 29-second dashcam video showing a red Honda MPV turning into a road before striking the victim.

Instead of stopping after its front tyre ran over her, the driver continued moving, causing the rear tyre to run over her body.

The driver allegedly did not stop his car after the collision. Joe claimed he only came to a halt after another motorist blocked his path with their vehicle.

According to Joe, the incident occurred at around 8am near a market close to UTC Sentul

"She was standing at the junction, waiting to cross the road.

"A red Honda hit her and sent her flying. The driver did not stop. He drove over her body.

"My grandmother was left lying on the road, with multiple bones severely shattered, bleeding heavily, and vomiting blood," the 26-year-old said.

Speaking to SAYS, Joe said the suspect claimed that he did not intend to flee the scene, insisting that he was merely looking for a parking spot further down the road.

"The perpetrator claimed he was just looking for a parking spot and was in a hurry to send his child to school.

"We find this completely unreasonable. What kind of school is open on a Sunday?

"Shouldn't you stop immediately after hitting someone? Why would you run over the person a second time instead of stopping? What 'parking spot' was he looking for?" Joe said when contacted today, 15 January.

Joe also claimed the suspect showed no sign of remorse following the incident

"He looked completely indifferent, as if it had nothing to do with him, and was even walking around in a slow, leisurely manner," he said.

The family is currently seeking legal advice to pursue justice.

According to the police report lodged by the family, the victim, Lim Mui Choo, was rushed to the emergency ward at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where she was pronounced dead by a medical officer.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving, reported The Star.

Joe claimed that although the man has given a statement to the police, no action has been taken against him.

SAYS has reached out to the investigating officer to confirm whether he has been detained.
