Police have arrested two suspects, a father and son, in connection with the gruesome murder of a woman

The victim's body was dismembered and discarded at multiple rubbish disposal sites near a supermarket in Taman Indah Permai, Kota Kinabalu, yesterday, 12 February.

Here's everything we know so far about the case.

What was discovered

The case came to light early Thursday morning after garbage disposal workers made a shocking discovery near a supermarket in Taman Indah Permai.

At around 6.30am, a severed arm reportedly fell out of a rubbish bag while waste was being collected. A further inspection led to the discovery of a severed leg at the same site.

Later, at about 11.40am, police found the victim's head and torso at another garbage disposal area nearby.

The woman's body is believed to have been dismembered into seven parts.

Police have not revealed the victim's identity. However, she is believed to be a woman in her 40s. Two body parts, another arm and a leg have yet to be recovered.

Police arrested two suspects, believed to be related

A local man in his 70s was arrested at about 5pm on the day the remains were found, while his son, in his 20s, was arrested later at around 11pm in Sepanggar.

Both were detained in less than 24 hours after the initial discoveries.

Acting district police chief Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Police said the primary suspect was identified based on physical clues found on the victim's body. No further details have been disclosed.

Police believe jealousy was the motive behind the killing

According to the police, an argument allegedly took place between one of the suspects and the victim before the incident.

With both suspects in custody, police said the case is considered solved, although investigations are still ongoing, reported the New Straits Times.

So far, police have not confirmed the nature of the relationship between the suspects and the victim, or what triggered the argument.
