A 37-year-old durian seller has been remanded for allegedly peeping on his 17-year-old female cousin while she was bathing at a residence in Parit Sulong, Johor

Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman issued the three-day remand order at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court today, 1 April.

The suspect, a father of one, will remain in custody until Friday, 3 April, to facilitate investigations, according to the New Straits Times.

According to police reports, the incident came to light yesterday when the victim's 39-year-old mother heard her screaming in the bathroom

The teenager had claimed she saw a man peeping at her before he fled the scene.

While the suspect did not record any footage, the victim was able to identify him after noticing his vehicle parked close to the house.

Following the report, authorities tracked down and arrested him at a nearby residence.

The investigation is currently being conducted under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017

While Section 14 typically addresses physical sexual assault on a minor, the Act also provides stringent penalties for various forms of sexual misconduct involving children, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
