A 33-year-old doctor has been remanded over the alleged murder of his wife and son at their home in Johor Bahru

According to the New Straits Times, the suspect is expected to be charged at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court today, 16 January, following his arrest on 6 January.

The victims, a 36-year-old accountant and her 4-year-old son, were found dead at their home in Bandar Dato' Onn on 31 December 2025.

Based on post-mortem examinations, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad revealed yesterday, 15 January, that the wife died of asphyxia, while the boy was smothered.

He said the wife had slash wounds on her neck, while her son showed bluish discolouration on his face, believed to have been caused by suffocation.

A knife and a pillow were seized from the scene, and the suspect has been remanded for 14 days.

Police said the suspect tested negative for drugs and has no prior criminal record

The suspect is expected to face two counts of murder, one count of causing the disappearance of evidence, and one count of obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duty, under Sections 302, 201, and 186 of the Penal Code, respectively.

The murder charge carries the heaviest punishment, with the suspect facing up to 40 years' imprisonment and 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed upon conviction.

Rahaman declined to comment on the motive behind the killings, saying the matter would be dealt with during court proceedings.
