A Chinese couple has been arrested for filming themselves having sex in broad daylight on a Pattaya sidewalk, in full view of passersby, claiming they were unaware the act was illegal in Thailand
The incident took place near the entrance of the popular Walking Street in South Pattaya on Wednesday afternoon, 9 April, according to a post on the Pattaya City Police Station's Facebook page.
A security guard alerted local police after witnessing the pair — later identified as Oh Zhihang, 67, and Lin Tingting, 37 — engaging in sexual activity, which they were recording with a tripod-mounted camera.
CCTV footage confirmed the guard's account, showing the man removing his shirt and trousers, while the woman wore only a shirt. Several pedestrians and motorists reportedly witnessed the act.
The guard also took photos of the couple as evidence before calling the police to the scene.

According to Pattaya City Police, the couple has been charged under Section 388 of the Thai Criminal Code for public obscenity
During interrogation with the help of an interpreter, the Chinese man claimed he was a photographer who enjoyed nude photoshoots and had filmed similar videos in several countries for his personal collection.
He said he was unaware that such acts were prohibited in Thailand.
The couple apologised to local authorities and the public, stating they did not intend to cause offence.
In a Facebook statement, Pattaya police described the incident as an embarrassment to the city's image and vowed to take swift action against anyone found engaging in similar acts in public spaces.
"Pattaya is not a place for shameless people," the statement read.
The couple being questioned after they were arrested at a hotel.
