Chinese singer-actor Zhang Yiyang was recently revealed to have been executed last year after stabbing his 16-year-old girlfriend to death

According to China News Asia, his execution only became public in July 2025, according to an investigation report by the Intermediate People's Court of Xianyang City, Shaanxi province, which also detailed the events leading up to Zhang's arrest.

In February 2022, he lured his teenage girlfriend to a forest at Xingping, Shaanxi province, under the pretense of celebrating his birthday together.

The singer, who was 30 at the time, got into a breakup-related argument with the girl that ended with Zhang fatally stabbing her in the neck multiple times with a folding knife.

After disposing of his clothes and her phone in a reservoir, he checked into a hotel with the intent to take his own life. However, hotel staff intervened and called police, who subsequently arrested Zhang.

Reportedly, Zhang possessed a paranoid streak, and a strong desire for control at all times

Zhang and his girlfriend had first started dating in September 2021, but their relationship became frayed when she attempted to break up with him — he would allegedly threaten suicide to keep her from leaving him.

In accordance with China's criminal law, the court deprived Zhang of political rights to life, and sentenced him to death.

His appeal was rejected, and he was executed by firing squad on 18 December 2024.
