Two Malaysians have been arrested after a car smashed through Tuas Checkpoint and was later found carrying a stash of drugs

In a statement yesterday, 25 February, the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said officers detected the Malaysia-registered car driving towards the arrival motorcycle zone at about 2.44pm on 22 February.

The vehicle made an unauthorised U-turn at the entrance and drove against the flow of arriving traffic towards Malaysia, putting other road users in danger. Officers nearby were immediately alerted to intercept the car.

The car later turned back towards Malaysia before it could be stopped. ICA promptly notified Malaysian authorities at the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) Second Link to be on the lookout.

At about 3pm, the same vehicle re-entered Tuas Checkpoint.

A lockdown of the checkpoint was immediately activated after officers spotted the car speeding through one of the lanes and damaging a drop-arm barrier at the arrival cargo zone.

No injuries were reported.

A search revealed about 97g of heroin, 69g of methamphetamine or "Ice", three Erimin-5 tablets, and 27 tablets believed to contain controlled drugs. The items were found on the driver and in a pouch under the front passenger seat, along with various drug paraphernalia.

The driver was also not in possession of a valid travel document at the time.

Both men have been handed over to the Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau, with investigations into the drug-related offences ongoing.

ICA said the driver is also being investigated for immigration offences, while the traffic police are looking into rash and other driving offences connected to the incident.
