A month after 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen was allegedly stabbed to death by her junior schoolmate at SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4), her mother has penned a deeply personal public statement

In the statement released over the weekend, the mother, Wong Lee Ping, said the past month has been the darkest period of their lives.

She added that support from strangers, friends, and the wider community has "brought light into our sorrow" during a time when her family could barely stand.

Describing Shing Xuen as "an obedient, kind, and loving daughter", the mother recalled how "she was always helpful, passionate in her activities, and full of life."

"At only 16 years old — in the prime of her youth — her life was taken from her in a tragic and senseless way, " she wrote, adding, "As her mother, my heart is torn beyond words."

"I cannot accept that she left us so suddenly and unfairly. She deserves justice."

In her statement, the grieving mother also called for systemic accountability

She urged the parents to take responsibility for shaping their children's actions and that "only through honest reflection" can future tragedies be prevented.

"When something so serious happens, it's not just the child who must be held accountable — families must also take responsibility for their role," she wrote, adding that parents have a duty to guide and nurture their child.

As the investigation continues, she urged schools and authorities to rebuild trust in student safety.

"I sincerely appeal to the public, our schools, the government, and all responsible authorities to take this tragedy seriously.

"We send our children to school with trust — believing it is a safe space for learning and growth," she stated in the post.

"That trust has now been shaken. We must not allow such an incident to ever happen again."

She called Shing Xuen's tragic death a "wake-up call for society"

Wong argued that the safety of the students cannot be shouldered by families alone; it must be a shared responsibility borne by the entire community.

"Every life matters," she urged.

"Every child deserves to grow up safely, in an environment full of love, respect, and hope."

Wong concluded her post, hoping the tragedy serves as a reminder to society "to protect what truly matters — our children, our future".

"May justice be served for Shing Xuen," she wrote, signing off simply as a heartbroken mother seeking justice, "and may no other family ever have to endure such tearing pain".

A request for the evaluation was filed by the boy's lawyer, Anwar Ezzad Zainal, under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which covers cases where an accused is suspected of being of unsound mind.

He has been charged with murdering his schoolmate in the girls' toilet of SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4) in Bandar Utama on the morning of 14 October.
