A Sri Lankan man was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport after three live pythons were discovered hidden in his underwear

Thailand's Wildlife Crime Intelligence Centre (WCIC) identified the suspect as Seehan, who arrived on Thai Airways flight TG308 from Colombo in the early hours of 1 July.

According to the Bangkok Post, background checks on Seehan revealed an extensive history of wildlife trafficking involving various species, including wolves, parrots, civets, and squirrels.

He was previously apprehended in Colombo last year for similar offences. The WCIC, alongside airport authorities, confirmed they had monitored his movements throughout his stay in Bangkok.

On 2 July, Seehan left his hotel and headed to the airport by taxi

After checking in for his flight, he cleared additional X-ray screening, which initially detected no illegal items.

However, a subsequent personal body search, as reported by Thai PBS World, uncovered three ball pythons (Python regius) concealed in his underwear.

Seehan was consequently arrested for breaching Thailand's wildlife conservation laws and remains in custody for questioning as the investigation continues.

Ball pythons, also known as royal pythons, are a popular species of non-venomous constrictor snake native to West and Central Africa

These snakes are named for their defensive behaviour, coiling into a tight ball when startled. Special import permits are required to keep them in Thailand.

Interestingly, legend has it that Cleopatra VII once wore them as bracelets.
