An 8-year-old boy in northern Thailand, who reportedly communicated by barking after being severely neglected by his family, has been rescued and placed in a children's home

According to Thai newspaper Khaosod, the child was discovered living in squalor with dogs, having been deprived of human interaction.

Authorities intervened following a tip-off, finding the boy in a dilapidated property with his mother and elder brother, both of whom tested positive for drugs.

Neighbours had reportedly shunned the family, leaving the boy with only the six dogs for company.

Foundation for Children and Women president Paveena Hongsakul, who was alerted about the boy, described his circumstances as "pitiful"

She noted that the boy "didn't speak, he just barked".

The child was not enrolled in school despite his mother receiving a government stipend of 400 baht (approximately RM52) meant for his education.

It is believed the boy attended school only once.

A teacher familiar with the case mentioned that the boy's house was in a "red zone for drugs"

The boy is now safe in a children's shelter, where he is receiving care and support.

Officials and the child welfare foundation are committed to providing him with a proper education and assistance to help him adapt to society.
