Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a stern warning to enforcement officials, saying they must intensify their fight against corruption or risk losing their positions

Speaking to heads of departments and enforcement agencies tackling financial crime at the Finance Ministry yesterday, 28 January, Anwar said he has grown increasingly impatient with persistent issues of smuggling, corruption, and illicit activities.

"I want to give a firm, brief reprimand. The time has come for us to provide answers.

"If you have been entrusted with responsibility but cannot fulfil it because the challenges are too great, the trials too heavy, or the temptations too strong, inform your superiors, me, the ministers, or the Attorney General.

"Tell us you are not ready to take these bold steps, and [we'll] make way for others. [You have] one week.

"Why have I chosen to say this? Because I have reached a point where I have lost my patience, and there are still weaknesses and gaps that must be addressed," he said.

Anwar's remarks come in the wake of several high-profile alleged corruption cases in the military

Over the past week, a former military intelligence chief, a former armed forces chief, and a former army chief were charged in court, while several navy officers were remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist investigations into alleged corruption.

The cases involve individuals holding 'Tan Sri', which have drawn international attention.

The military is a nation's key asset, serving as the frontline in safeguarding its sovereignty.

Any weakness or instability within the armed forces sends a concerning signal to other countries and poses a risk to national security.
