A Singaporean woman who falsely accused a man of rape after he refused to pay her SGD1,200 (RM3,895) following consensual sex has been sentenced to 12 months' probation

According to CNA, Claris Ling Min Rui, 20, was also ordered to perform 60 hours of community service and adhere to a nightly curfew from 10pm to 6am.

Her parents posted a SGD5,000 (RM16,233) bond to ensure her good behaviour during the probation period.

Ling had earlier pleaded guilty to two charges, giving false information to a public servant and using threatening words to cause alarm.

The case arose from a dispute in March this year, when Ling, then 19, met a 43-year-old man she connected with on a sugar daddy dating platform

The pair agreed to meet for a date, with the man offering SGD200 (RM650) for her time. After going to a bar, they had consensual sex in a hotel.

Ling later demanded SGD1,200, but the man refused.

When he offered SGD500 (RM1,620) instead, she threatened to call the police and accuse him of rape.

She later made a police report and sent him a text that read:

"You're f*cked."

However, CCTV footage from the hotel contradicted her account, and she eventually admitted to lying.

For giving false information to a public servant, Ling could have faced up to two years in jail, a fine, or both.

For using threatening words to cause alarm, she could have been jailed for up to six months or fined up to SGD5,000, or both.
