For the first time in its history, South by Southwest (SXSW) will feature a dedicated Malaysian stage, putting homegrown, independent artistes directly in front of a global audience

If you've never heard of South by Southwest (SXSW), it is one of the biggest and most influential creative festivals in the world, held annually in Austin, Texas.

It's where music, film, tech, and culture collide, and it's famously known for discovering and launching global stars early in their careers.

And from 12 to 18 March, Malaysia isn't just attending. We're planting a flag.

Leading the historic Made In Malaysia stage is rapper and singer-songwriter Zamaera, who is also curating the lineup.

Joining her are four other Malaysian artistes, each representing a different sound, scene, and side of Malaysia's music identity.

Here's who will be representing Malaysia at SXSW 2026:

Zamaera
Known for her fearless fusion of hip hop, trap, electronic sounds, and local influences, Zamaera has been steadily gaining international attention since her SXSW debut in 2025.

Her latest single, Ikan Kekek, reworks a familiar Malaysian folk rhyme into a bold, modern track, making it especially meaningful as she leads Malaysia's first SXSW stage.

The festival attracts music industry professionals, media, and audiences from around the world, making it a powerful platform for emerging talent.

For Malaysian artistes, performing on a dedicated national stage at SXSW isn't just about playing music overseas. It's about visibility, credibility, and opening doors to new opportunities on a global level.
