A serious back injury two years ago nearly forced national shuttler Pearly Tan into early retirement, but intervention from a chiropractor kept her career alive

Pearly revealed that Ng Yin Luo, the chiropractor who treated her, even travelled with her to the 2025 BWF World Championships in Paris last month, where she and partner Thinaah Muralitharan made history as the first Malaysian pair to win a silver medal.

The chiropractor's involvement was also confirmed by Pristine Chiropractic Centre, which announced on Instagram on 21 August that Ng would be away from 22 to 31 August as she had been appointed to accompany the national team to the Paris World Championships.

"Two years ago, I suffered a very bad back injury, and it almost forced me to stop playing. I met the chiropractor, and she helped me return to the court and perform well again. Without her, I couldn't have made it," Pearly was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.

Pearly said that while she used to see Ng daily during her recovery, she now only goes occasionally to maintain her back health

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh confirmed that Pearly's request for additional support was approved by the Road to Gold (RTG) committee, allowing Ng to accompany her for major tournaments when needed.

Although not a permanent fixture at every event, Ng is expected to be present at key competitions, based on Pearly's request and BAM's approval.

Pearly–Thinaah, who were each awarded RM10,000 by 7AutoSpa for their historic silver medal at the World Championships, will next compete at the Arctic Open, 7 to 12 October, Denmark Open, 14 to 19 October, and French Open, 21 to 26 October.
