Year 4 Pupils Will Take New Standardised Test Starting This Year, Says Anwar

The new assessment will not be conducted at the end of the primary school years.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Year 4 pupils will sit for a new standardised assessment starting this year

Speaking at the launch of the National Education Plan today, 20 January, he said the Education Ministry will reintroduce the Malaysian learning matrix system.

Anwar said the assessment will be administered at the Year 4 level, saying, "Why wait until Year 6?"

The assessment will evaluate pupils' proficiency in five subjects: Bahasa Melayu, English, Science, Mathematics, and History.

Meanwhile, children in Malaysia will start preschool at age 5 and Year One at age 6:
