Woman Who Brought Knife To Rain Rave Festival Referred To Hospital Bahagia

A woman who was detained for carrying a knife at the Rain Rave Water Music Festival in Bukit Bintang has been charged at the Sessions Court today, 4 May, for possessing an offensive weapon in public

According to Malay Mail, the charge falls under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, which carries a penalty of five to 10 years' imprisonment and whipping if convicted.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam said the accused, 28-year-old Shannon Anne-Ooi, has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta, Perak, as she is suspected of having mental health issues.

She is currently being held at Kajang Prison, and the court has fixed 4 June for the next mention of the case.

Earlier, a video circulated online showing members of the public restraining her after she allegedly brandished a knife during the festival, before police arrived last Saturday night, 2 May.
