Netizens have flooded social media with complaints over a surge in traffic congestion across the Klang Valley this week, with many questioning the cause of the sudden spike

"Guys, can someone explain why the traffic is SO BAD these days in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor? It's terrible, even during non-rush hours," wrote one Threads user.

"Traffic has been insanely horrible the past few days in KL, even after 10pm. What is going on?" another user said.

"The jam is so bad even I, a motorcyclist, can feel it," another added.

Across multiple platforms, users reported that trips under 10km — usually taking less than 30 minutes — have recently stretched to over two hours

One user said a drive from Subang to Bangsar South, about 17km, took them two and a half hours to cover.

"What's happening with traffic this week? It's so bad today. I left work at 5pm and only reached home at 8pm," they said.

"Subang to KL almost three hours — this week was horrible on the Federal Highway," another lamented.

Another shared that a journey from TTDI to Bangsar, which typically takes under 90 minutes, lasted two and a half hours.

Some netizens speculated that, beyond the usual workday congestion, the surge could be due to people rushing to complete errands ahead of major upcoming festivities such as Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and Ramadan next week

"Is it because people are chasing deadlines, trying to clear as much work as they can before CNY week? Getting deliveries done and shopping as much as possible?" one Threads user wondered.

Another user said the sudden shift in traffic conditions felt unusual.

"The change is so sudden. There's no way everyone bought a new car at the same time. It went from bad to worse overnight," they wrote.

Others said the heavy traffic was expected during the festive lead-up.

"It's normal. CNY and Ramadan are coming, people are busy running errands, and lorries are rushing deliveries before many go on break next week. Even wet markets are closing for CNY, so everything needs to be settled by this weekend," one commenter replied.
