Under Section 377A of the Penal Code, Muhammad Yushakimi is accused of intentionally committing unnatural sex against the 17-year-old victim

He faces up to 20 years' imprisonment and whipping under Section 377B, if convicted.

He was also charged under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physical sexual assault against the same victim at the same time and place. This also provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and whipping.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na'ilah Harizan initially proposed bail at RM20,000. However, defence counsel Habibah Wahab requested a minimal amount, citing that her client is still a student and relies on his parents for support. The court subsequently set bail at RM10,000 for both charges with one surety and fixed 11 January 2026 for mention.

According to Jeli district police chief Supt Kamarulzaman Harun, investigations revealed the suspect had picked the girl up from school before stopping at the location to engage in the alleged acts.

The couple were startled when police officers on patrol approached their vehicle, which caused the student to speed off, leading to a pursuit that ended in Kampung Rabbana, where he was arrested.
