Authorities in the popular Thai resort city of Pattaya have launched an investigation following a brazen display of public intimacy by a couple
Despite numerous witnesses and the early-morning bustle along the shoreline of a popular beach, the pair continued their amorous activities in the sea for nearly an hour.
The incident, captured in several viral videos shared across social media platforms, occurred at approximately 4.30am on Monday, 16 February.
In a now-deleted clip originally posted to a local community group, a man and a woman were filmed floating in the water while engaging in highly suggestive behaviour
The footage showed the woman, dressed in a black swimsuit, positioned provocatively against the man; further clips depicted the pair locked in an embrace as they moved closer.
A primary witness to the event, a 47-year-old local, recounted the scene to Thailand's Channel 7 News
He noted that the couple appeared to be Chinese and behaved with an extraordinary lack of inhibition given the public setting.
According to his account, the pair briefly returned to the sand before heading back into the water for a "second round", maintaining their intimacy even as onlookers began taking photographs and recording the scene.
Public reaction has been swift and critical, particularly as the incident was documented and circulated within the "Sweet Pattaya Squid" group before being deleted
The witness told Amarin TV that the most striking aspect of the encounter was the couple's nonchalance; after concluding their activities, they simply walked away from the beach as if no breach of public decorum had occurred.
In response to the viral footage, local law enforcement and municipal authorities have confirmed they are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the individuals involved.
Beyond the immediate investigation, officials are now considering stricter security measures and increased patrols to maintain order along beach areas during the night and early morning hours. The move aims to deter similar behaviour and ensure public spaces remain respectful for all visitors.

These recurring events have drawn comparisons to a 2018 case in Krabi, where foreign tourists faced significant legal penalties and public outcry for similar acts of indecency on protected shorelines.
