A Singapore-registered Honda was caught on video refuelling with RON95 petrol at a station in Masai, Johor, early Wednesday morning, 1 October

The 22-second clip, shared on the Facebook page Community Roda Johor – CRJ, showed the driver using the yellow nozzle for RON95, priced at RM2.60 per litre, which is strictly off-limits to foreign-registered vehicles.

The incident reportedly happened around 3.55am.

In the video, the person filming can be heard reminding the driver, "You're supposed to use the green nozzle (RON97)."

However, the Singaporean appeared surprised and claimed he didn't know about the restriction, responding with, "Tak boleh meh?"

The video drew frustration from Malaysians online, with many accusing the driver of deliberately refuelling at odd hours to exploit the price difference

"With petrol prices in Singapore at around RM9.40 per litre, it's no wonder drivers are trying to take advantage — even coming at unusual times," said the caption of the video.

Others called for the driver to be penalised, while some suggested using the petrol pump's emergency stop button if faced with a similar situation.

Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo has later confirmed that enforcement officers were sent to the station to investigate

According to the New Straits Times, she said if the operator is found negligent, legal action could follow, with the case possibly referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

Under Malaysian law, only Malaysian-registered vehicles are allowed to purchase RON95, while foreign-registered cars must use RON97.

Both motorists and station operators risk legal action if caught flouting the rule.
