The government will roll out new MyKad and passports for Malaysians in June, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail

Speaking at the ministry's monthly assembly today, 4 May, Saifuddin also revealed that the National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) is expected to take off in September, reported the New Straits Times.

"The new documents would involve identity cards and passports equipped with the latest security features, in line with current requirements and increasingly complex security challenges.

"I believe the National Registration Department and the Immigration Department already have their Plan A and Plan B in place.

"I am highly confident that we will be able to get through this historic moment smoothly this June, as the time has come for us to issue new documents with improved security features, which we have been working towards for a long time," he said.

In January, the minister announced plans to upgrade MyKad and passports as part of a scheduled renewal cycle

The new documents with enhanced security features aim to safeguard their integrity and reduce the risk of counterfeiting.

Since the announcement earlier this year, Saifuddin said his ministry has made significant progress in preparing all prerequisites and enablers for the system ahead of its rollout.

The ministry will also introduce a system for citizenship applications and information submissions, following approval under amendments to the Federal Constitution.

The improved system will strengthen data security, enhance efficiency and stability, and deliver better user-friendly immigration services.

"I am proud to have a highly disciplined team with well-structured planning, and we are now at the final stage of seeing the reforms and changes we have undertaken reaching completion and delivering benefits to the public," he said.
