Good news for students and teachers nationwide — the Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced additional school holidays in conjunction with the Deepavali 2025 celebrations, which fall on Monday, 20 October 2025
According to Sinar Bestari and the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 session, this additional holiday applies to all schools nationwide except Sarawak. The move is to allow the school community to celebrate the Festival of Lights with their loved ones.

Here's the holiday schedule as outlined in the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Session:
- Group A – Schools in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu will have holidays on 19 October (Sunday) and 21 October (Tuesday).
- Group B – Schools in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Selangor, Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya will have holidays on 21 October (Tuesday) and 22 October (Wednesday).
- Sarawak (Group B) will have one day off, on 20 October (Monday).

This means the school community will get up to two extra holidays, depending on the state
With this announcement, students and teachers can take the opportunity to travel back to their hometowns, visit friends and family, or simply rest at home before the school session resumes.
For the Hindu community, Deepavali (or Diwali) is a meaningful celebration. It is not only a cultural tradition but also a symbolic festival that marks the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
