The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has allowed Hindu students and academic staff at all public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges to attend classes online or through hybrid sessions during the Deepavali festive week

The flexibility will be in effect from 16 to 24 October 2025, in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration, which falls on Monday, 20 October.

According to MOHE, the move aims to give Hindu students and lecturers the opportunity to celebrate Deepavali with their families "in a harmonious and meaningful atmosphere", in line with Malaysia's spirit of inclusivity and cultural harmony.

However, the ministry said the implementation of this arrangement will still depend on the suitability and academic requirements of each institution

This is to ensure that teaching and learning activities continue smoothly.

MOHE also extended its Deepavali greetings to all Hindu Malaysians, students, and staff, wishing that the Festival of Lights brings joy, peace, and prosperity to everyone.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education (MOE) had also announced two additional school holidays for Deepavali 2025.
