Man Who Died In Mont Kiara Condo Fire Had Lived Alone Since 2021, Say Police

The victim was found on the balcony with 100% burns.

The man who died in the fire that broke out on the 26th floor of a Mont Kiara condominium on Wednesday night, 10 December, had been living alone

The 38-year-old victim, an unmarried part-time painter, had been residing in the unit since 2021 and was said to have last contacted his family at 2pm last Saturday, 6 December.

According to Bernama, Brickfields district police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said initial investigations found no signs of foul play, and the case has been handed over to the Fire and Rescue Department for further action.

"The case is being investigated as a sudden death report. The Fire and Rescue Department's forensic team and K9 unit have revisited the scene to assist in the investigation, and no criminal elements were detected," he said.

He added that a post-mortem at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) confirmed that the victim died from severe burns.

Earlier, it was reported that the man was discovered on the balcony with 100% burns

The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Movement Centre said they received an emergency call at 8.46pm through the NG999 system before dispatching teams from the Sri Hartamas, Menjalara, Sentul, and Taman Tun Dr Ismail fire stations.

Upon arrival at the 26th floor, firefighters found the unit engulfed in flames. The team immediately carried out firefighting and rescue operations using two portable pumps and an engine-mounted pump to channel water to the affected unit.

The victim, identified as a 38-year-old Chinese Malaysian man, was found on the balcony with full-body burns and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Health Ministry medical team

The blaze, which destroyed the approximately 1,500-sqft unit, was fully extinguished at 2.03am.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department's forensic unit.
