Police have arrested a man suspected of assaulting his pregnant wife, causing her to miscarry in Kedah

According to Bernama, Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the 43-year-old suspect was apprehended in Alor Setar yesterday, 28 April, five days after he allegedly fled following the incident.

Last Thursday, 23 April, the victim, a 39-year-old woman, was rushed to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani with severe injuries to her face and body, which led to the loss of her pregnancy.

The assault is believed to have taken place at their home during a domestic dispute, where the woman was allegedly attacked with items including a clothes hanger, a rubber hose, a curtain rod, and a broom.

Following the incident, the suspect also reportedly fled with jewellery and savings amounting to RM50,000. Police had been tracking him before his arrest.

He has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the case

The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

Police had confirmed that the suspect is Rosmaini Abd Raof, who was previously convicted in connection with a 2021 assault involving his then-wife, Jahidah Nordin.

In that case, Jahidah, who was also pregnant at the time, suffered severe injuries and has remained bedridden in a vegetative state since the incident.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
