The lawyer representing national footballer Faisal Halim's wife, Nur Syazwani Mizuana Shahril, has denied claims that she filed for divorce due to financial issues or Faisal's appearance following an acid attack
Her lawyer, Roshdan Sujak Rafie, clarified that the divorce was filed because the couple no longer shared a mutual understanding and had been living apart for about a month, according to Harian Metro.
"I've read comments from netizens saying my client filed for divorce because Faisal had no money or was no longer handsome. None of this is true.
I was informed the issue is simply that they no longer have a mutual understanding," he told the Malay daily.
Roshdan said his client is in good condition and prepared for the public attention surrounding the case, knowing that many of Faisal's fans are curious about their personal lives.
During proceedings at the Klang Syariah Lower Court, Roshdan said Faisal's lawyer informed the court that the Selangor FC winger had once pronounced a divorce outside of court before later reconciling with his wife
"My client has filed for divorce, but during the hearing, Faisal's lawyer stated that his client had pronounced divorce before and reconciled, so the court must first confirm and determine the number of talak," he explained.
He added that custody of their only child has not yet been discussed, as the priority is first to resolve the confirmation of the divorce pronouncement made outside court.
Faisal's lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader, also confirmed that the marriage broke down due to a lack of mutual understanding
"Yes, that was the reason — no mutual understanding," he said.
According to him, Faisal claimed to have pronounced divorce on 15 June before reconciling the following day.
However, as the divorce and reconciliation were not officially registered, the court must now verify the pronouncement.
The case has been scheduled for mention on 16 October before Judge Mohd Hairuddin Ab Rahim.
Faisal, also known as Mickey, married Nur Syazwani on 9 March 2019. The couple has a son, Khalish Aryan.
