Loud, unexplained booming sounds were reported across parts of Ipoh in the early hours of today, 9 February, with reports stretching as far as Kampar, Tapah, and Teluk Intan
The sounds were heard from about 11.50pm last night up to 5am this morning, according to posts and comments on social media.
In Kampar, one resident said the vibrations were strong enough to rattle the sliding doors of her home.

The Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG) said it launched an investigation despite not receiving any official complaints
According to the New Straits Times, JMG Perak director Nizarulikram Abdul Rahim said preliminary checks have ruled out quarry blasting and seismic activity as possible causes.
"Quarry blasting is only permitted between noon and 5pm from Monday to Friday. Since the reported incident occurred around midnight or in the early morning, it could not have originated from quarry operations," he said.
He added that the Malaysian Meteorological Department's (METMalaysia) seismic monitoring instruments also did not detect any activity that could have caused ground vibrations in the affected areas.
This is not the first time Ipoh has experienced such unexplained incidents, with similar events reported on 18 June last year and 21 October 2024
Similar mysterious booms were also recorded in 2012 and 2018.
However, the source of the sounds and tremors remains unknown.
