In his New Year's speech today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said all students will be receiving a one-off cash assistance of RM150
Anwar said the Bantuan Awal Prasekolah (BAP) aid will now cover up to Form 6 students, instead of just up to Form 5 students previously.
According to Anwar, the money has to be claimed by the students' parents, who must present themselves at school and learn from their children's teachers how they are doing in class.
"Parents must go to the school… to make sure the money is spent on their children, and secondly, they must hear from the teachers about their child's issues," he said.
He added that RM800 million has been allocated for this back-to-school assistance.
Over 5.2 million students from Year 1 to Form 6, including those in vocational and special education, are expected to benefit from the aid.
