Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today, 5 January, confirmed a series of financial aid packages and salary increases for early 2026

The announcement by Anwar covered students, households, civil servants, and all citizens. Here's what's coming and when.

1. Early Schooling Aid (BAP) – 13 January 2026

Parents can expect a one-off RM150 cash aid per student to prepare for the new school session. Over 5.2 million students from Year 1 to Form 6, including those in vocational and special education, are eligible, with no income limit.

According to Anwar, the cash will be distributed through schools, either in person or via bank transfer, starting from 13 January.

Anwar stressed that parents must personally collect the aid at schools.

"The allocation is substantial. Parents must go to the school… ensure the money is spent on the child, and listen to teachers about the child's issues," he said during his New Year 2026 address.

2. Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) Phase 1 – 20 January 2026

The first phase of the annual STR cash assistance will begin on 20 January. Nearly nine million Malaysians, including households, senior citizens, and singles, are eligible.

Payment amounts vary by category. For instance, households earning below RM2,500 could receive up to RM500 in this first phase.

3. Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) Phase 2 Salary Adjustment – 22 January 2026

Approximately 1.6 million civil servants under the SSPA scheme will see their salaries adjusted.

  • Implementation and Management & Professional groups: 7% increase
  • Top Management Group (KPT): 3% increase

Although the adjustment is effective from 1 January, the new salaries will be reflected in the 22 January payday.

4. Basic Rahmah Contribution (SARA) – 9 February 2026

A special one-off RM100 aid will be credited to all 22 million Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above to help with preparations for Chinese New Year and Ramadan.

As with last year, the cashless aid will be loaded directly onto recipients' MyKad and can be used at over 7,000 participating stores nationwide.

This is in addition to the regular monthly SARA aid (RM50–RM100) received by STR recipients throughout the year.
