A 70-year-old grandmother had a close call with a 5m-long king cobra when she went to the toilet

According to Berita Harian, the woman from Kampung Ketembar in Baling, Kedah opened the toilet door when she saw the massive snake coiled inside.

The woman, who lives with two grandchildren, called her son for help before they alerted the fire department at 6.40am today, 21 November.

Baling Fire and Rescue station chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said it took six dispatched firefighters 30 minutes to capture the snake, which they accomplished using snares.

"The reptile was quite aggressive, it raised its body about a metre high. Our guys faced challenges in catching it because the toilet was narrow."

Zulkhairi said the cobra most likely entered the house through an uncovered drain pipe

He added that it was safely released into the wild, far from residential areas.

Zulkhairi said the cleanliness of residential areas had to be maintained as to prevent reptile infestations.

A massive 3m python crashed through the ceiling of a house in Sungai Petani, leaving the Civil Defence Force team who responded in shock. Sergeant Zaiton Mohamed Ali said they didn't expect the snake to be so huge — around 60kg and "as big as an anaconda". The python, which had been hiding in the ceiling for months, fell with a loud thud and even pushed a heavy washing machine while trying to escape. The aggressive reptile was eventually captured by Zaiton and her team and taken to the APM Kuala Muda office for temporary holding. Follow @saysdotcom for more news updates. #SAYSnews
