The Pahang Forestry Department has temporarily suspended two Forestry Mountain Guides (MGPs) who led the Gunung Liang expedition that ended with the death of 34-year-old hiker Mustaqqeem Mansor
According to the New Straits Times, the department's Development Deputy Director, Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop, said the suspension allows a thorough investigation by multiple agencies to determine the hiker's cause of death.
Mohd Yussainy said he met both guides on Tuesday, 21 October, and will soon summon other parties involved to provide statements.
A full report will later be submitted to the Forestry Department's director-general.
"This action is necessary to ensure that all parties are given the opportunity to provide explanations and to avoid any prejudice against any individual involved.
"We decided to temporarily suspend the two MGPs to facilitate cooperation with the authorities, including the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Forestry Department, in conducting a comprehensive investigation," he said yesterday, 22 October.

He added that improvements may include the use of tracking devices or location chips for better monitoring.
"We will look into aspects of risk management, weaknesses, procedures, and any possible violations of regulations. All these findings will serve as the basis for corrective measures and improvements at the departmental level.
"These steps are important to address systemic issues, rather than focusing on individual fault, and to ensure that similar tragedies do not recur," he said.

The Fire and Rescue Department retrieved the victim's body from the peak of Gunung Liang on 17 October.
