The Perak Forestry Department has announced the closure of the Gunung Liang hiking area to the public until further notice, following the recent tragic death of a hiker at the summit
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 21 October, the department said the closure order takes effect immediately.
However, it noted that the restriction does not apply to official departmental programmes, such as the Climbing Track Conservation Programme held within permanent forest reserves.
"The public is reminded that under Section 47 of the National Forestry Act 1984 (Application) Enactment 1985, failure to comply with this directive may result in a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction," the department cautioned.

The closure follows the death of Mustaqqeem Mansoor, 34, who was found dead at 3.30pm on 16 October at the peak of Gunung Liang
He had joined 11 people — nine participants and two guides — for a climb that began on 10 October from Bukit Fraser, Pahang, and was last seen on 14 October.
His body was airlifted from the 1,933-metre summit by a Fire and Rescue Department helicopter at 2.45pm on 17 October.
A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Slim River confirmed that he had died of hypothermia.
As of 19 October, police have recorded statements from eight individuals, including the victim's fellow climbers, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
